Word has it that if you
can make it here, you can make it anywhere. Well, maybe
not if you're talking Rochester. But who can think of
New York without thinking first of the Big Apple, the
dazzle of Broadway, the Met, Lincoln Center, the Statue
of Liberty and...Wall Street? It's one of the nation's
most alluring cities; its success stories are legendary,
its quiet failures the fear of every hopeful ingenue and
artist who ever got off a train at Penn Station and took
a taxi to a downtown SRO.
But the five boroughs of New York City make up only
321 square miles of New York, the largest of the
country's eight middle Atlantic states. Let's not forget
Buffalo (birthplace of Buffalo Wings), Syracuse, Albany
(where Mario Cuomo lived for so many years), Rochester,
and Niagara Falls, every honeymooner's dream destination
(and the subject of a very funny Three Stooges skit).
There's a lot of ground to cover, literally and
figuratively, from the mouth of the Hudson River to the
highest peak in the Adirondacks. So what are you waiting
for?
