Peoria Illinois

Peoria is located at 275km southwest of Chicago. One of the oldest European settlements in the state, Peoria occupies a pretty location on the Illinois River. Begin your visit down by the water, at the Riverfront Visitors Center in downtown. It is situated in a productive farming and coal-mining region, it is an important port on the inland waterway system linking the Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico. It's housed in the Powell Press Building, a pre-Civil War structure that was relocated to the riverside and refurbished. Peoria museums include the Wheels O' Time Museum the African-American Museum and Hall of Fame and the Lakeview Museum of Arts & Sciences.

Peoria is a manufacturing, shipping, and cultural center; products include earth-moving and mining equipment, off-road vehicles, steel, and wire. The information technology industry is becoming increasingly important to the city’s economy. The city is served by the Greater Peoria Regional Airport
